Thailand is one of the major sugar producers and exporter on the world sugar market behind Brazil. From an industrial perspective, the Thai sugar sector is a large and relatively modern industry but regular climate issues are a limitation to sugar cane performance.
Despite the deregulation of the Thai sugar policy initiated in 2018, the system remains largely under the control of the Government who continues to provide support.
